About us

Sam Wilcox

Having a father dedicated to the gun trade, Sam has grown up with guns and shooting. With relatives and family friends being professional gamekeepers and shooting instructors, it was inevitable he would shoot his first rabbit at 4 years of age, thus beginning a lifelong love of shooting sports and guns, getting advice along the way from Uncle A J ‘Smoker’ Smith.

After leaving school, Sam began work in the family Game Dealing business learning all aspects of processing and preparing game. Before long his interest in guns and shooting naturally led him into an apprentiship with Dickson and MacNaughton where he learnt all aspects of gunsmithing, gun repairs and the gun trade from his father and colleagues.

After some years as an improver, Sam progressed to the ‘front of house’ Gunroom department in Edinburgh becoming Gunroom Manager with responsibility for gun sales, fault diagnosis and valuations.

After Barry’s retirement from Dickson and MacNaughton, it was only natural that he follow his father and become the main face of Castle Gunmakers Ltd, with responsibility for the day to day running of the shop. Sam carries out all gun servicing ‘in house’ together with most gun repairs.

Sam enjoys both game shooting and clays, with a real passion for deer stalking and rifles.
